Clean Drinking Water for Earthquake Victims in Myanmar

After the devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar on March 28th, thousands of affected children and families regained access to clean drinking water thanks to 48 new water tanks. The earthquake with its epicenter near the major city of Mandalay destroyed vast areas and cost countless human lives.

The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS supported the rapid emergency aid of the SANNI Foundation and its local partner organization Medical Action Myanmar. The SANNI Foundation is committed long-term to education, poverty reduction, and health promotion in Myanmar and South India and responded immediately after the disaster.

The financed water tanks were installed in earthquake camps and affected communities and are part of a comprehensive WASH program. The safe drinking water supply prevents life-threatening diseases transmitted through contaminated water and significantly reduces the risk of epidemic outbreaks. Especially for children, who are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases, access to clean water represents a crucial improvement of their survival chances and health.
