A fire destroyed two important buildings of the Baphumelele orphanage in Cape Town in August 2024, but thanks to comprehensive renovation work, up to 150 orphaned, abandoned, and neglected children can be safely cared for again. The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS supported, together with Themba Labantu – Hope for the People, the restoration of Clemens House and Clemens Clinic in the largest orphanage of Khayelitsha Township. Themba Labantu – Hoffnung für die Menschen e.V. die Instandsetzung des Clemens House und der Clemens Clinic im größten Waisenhaus des Townships Khayelitsha.
The renovation work included the complete renewal of the clinic roof, painting work, new electrical systems, and doors in both buildings. Particularly important was the repair of water pumps and installation of pressure booster pumps, which now provides running water on the first floor as well. Additionally, protective carpets, new baby beds, and dressers were purchased to enable optimal care for the youngest children.
The orphanage was founded in 1989 by Rosie Mashale, affectionately called "Mama Rosie," and has since provided a home for children from the most difficult circumstances. Many of the children are affected by HIV/AIDS. "Life is finally back to normal, and we are deeply grateful for your support in helping us restore this essential service and safeguard the wellbeing of these young lives," Mama Rosie rejoices about the successful restoration.
