The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS has transformed the balcony area of the children's department at Alrijne Hospital in the Netherlands into a colorful play and recreation paradise. Young patients can now play, move around and recover from their treatment on the newly designed balcony during their hospital stay.
The Stichting Alrijne Zorggroep operates the hospital, whose children's department performs examinations, emergency treatments and operations for children. Premature babies and their mothers are also comprehensively cared for here in the mother-child unit.
Through the complete redesign with new rubber mats, plants and a fresh coat of paint, a safe space for well-being was created. The equipment with diverse play and sports equipment such as basketball hoop, play boards, bicycles, a playhouse, toy cars and sensory equipment for children with special needs offers suitable activities for every child. Two picnic tables invite families to spend time together.
The balcony was officially opened on April 1st and now brings daily joy and distraction to the young patients during difficult treatment periods.
