Thanks to the foundation's support, new therapy beds were purchased for the Malteser Children's Aid's inpatient hospice for children and young people. As part of the employee projects, we were made aware of the Hilde Umdasch House.
With a holistic care concept, the Hilde Umdasch House places great value on a shared, family-like atmosphere. Currently, 9 children live here permanently and two children are in “short-term therapy”. The house offers both short-term care places or holiday care as well as long-term care places for children with special needs whose parents are reaching their limits with care at home and require palliative care for the children. There is also a hospice place that can be used by families who decide to spend their last days together as a family in the house, as well as two parent living units in which parents can live if they want to be as close as possible to their child during care. The house has medical care and numerous therapy options.
Since the house is very much focused on a communal environment and everyone likes to be in one room, the new therapy beds were needed because some children cannot sit in a wheelchair for long periods of time. The therapy beds allow the children to be part of what is happening at all times.
