Improved living conditions for families with children suffering from cancer
Together with the Groupe Franco-Africain d'Oncologie Pédiatrique (GFAOP), the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation has financed the renovation of a parents' house and the equipping of a playroom for children at the Hôpital d'Enfants Béchir Hamza in Tunis.
The modernized premises are intended to make the situation more pleasant for the children being treated as well as their parents on site. This is because parents can stay with their children, which improves care and reduces the dropout rate of treatments.
The pediatric cancer ward at the hospital has 14 beds, and about 80 new children are treated here each year. While their parents are accommodated in the nearby parents' house, the children can play in the newly equipped play area in a protected space and distract themselves from their illness and everyday hospital life.
