The Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS, together with the stern Foundation and Welthungerhilfe, supports the future of the people in the village of Kinakoni. In order to end hunger and poverty, the educational opportunities of the children of Kinakoni must also be improved, which makes education an important part of the project. DRYING LITTLE TEARS therefore supports the comprehensive renovation of the primary school in Kinakoni.

The school was built as early as 1967 and is one of the oldest in the Kyamatu/Voo District of Kitui East Subdistrict, Kitui County. It is located on a 18.7 hectare property. The condition of the school is precarious. The building is very dated and dilapidated, leaving some rooms barely usable. Some of the furniture can hardly be used, and there is no internet access. This has recently led to a significant decline in the number of students.
In order to be able to offer the 250 school-age children in Kinakoni a safe environment in which they can work on their future together with well-trained teachers, the building is being extensively renovated. The ten classrooms and the girls' dormitory will be completely renovated, a new administration block, a new kitchen and new sanitary facilities will be built and the school will be equipped with new furniture.

In order to make the investments as effective and sustainable as possible, the parents are trained in the operation and maintenance of the school. Training is also offered on child hygiene and sanitation, as well as life skills. In separate workshops, the students learn how to grow high-quality horticultural crops and nutrition training. Cooperation with tech start-ups from Nairobi should also enable digital learning in schools during the course of the project.
The completion of the primary school renovation is planned for summer 2023.
