Sulamot: Music for social change

Making music together and using music to teach children values that will help them grow up in disadvantaged regions of Israel is the goal of the project "Sulamot - music for social change". Children learn to stick together in an ensemble and rehearse for performances. They are supported in developing social skills and discovering their individual talents.

In October 2010, Sulamot was launched as a joint program with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Tel Aviv University. Until today, 1,200 children between the ages of 5 and 18 have learned to play in 18 Sulamot Orchestras and a special program for blind children.

At two schools in the country, the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation has supported the Sulamot program by purchasing several instruments. With the help of the foundation, a total of 120 Muslim and Jewish children play together as part of the Sulamot Orchestra on clarinets, saxophones, double basses and flutes.

The goal: bringing hope to the hearts of children at risk through music and positive experiences.
