Renovation of the children's home in the largest hospice center in South Africa

The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation and Business Traveller are partnering to support the renovation and expansion of a children's home in Mandeni. In partnership with the world's largest business travel magazine, BUSINESS TRAVELLER, the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation is supporting the renovation and expansion of the Blessed Gerald's Care Center in South Africa, a home for sick and abandoned children. The center is located in Mandeni, 100 km north of Durban. It is the largest hospital and social center in South Africa that takes special care of AIDS patients. The Bavarian priest, Father Gerhard Lagleder, founded the center to work on disease prevention. The center includes a home and a kindergarten, which are always overcrowded with sick, neglected, malnourished and abused children. Currently the kindergarten cares for 68 children. The home, which was opened in 2000, takes care of 29 children between the ages of 3 and 17, all with social problems. Gerard Lagleder, the Benedictine fathers in charge: "Among these children there are neglected children as well as AIDS patients." The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation and BUSINESS TRAVELLER are jointly supporting the renovation and expansion of the home. The entire house is to be painted. The tiles, sanitary facilities and doors have to be replaced. New switches, sockets and fans also need to be installed. For children who often come from disadvantaged families, with parents who are alcoholics or have AIDS, this home represents a safe place where they can feel at home. The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation and Business Traveller guarantee them a pleasant and safe living environment. At the BUSINESS TRAVELLERS AWARDS on June 27, 2013, Regine Sixt was awarded the BUSINESS TRAVELLER CHARITY AWARD. On this occasion, the BUSINESS TRAVELLER magazine and the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation decided to join forces to set up this project. Marc Tügel, editor-in-chief of BUSINESS TRAVELLER: The BUSINESS TRAVELLER CHARITY AWARD is intended to honour personalities from the tourism industry who are involved in social projects. Regine Sixt was chosen as the first winner. Ms. Sixt is a woman who cares energetically and wholeheartedly for children in need around the world, a woman who moves mountains.
