Education as a way out of poverty

Children in the poverty-stricken areas of Nairobi often have no chance of escaping poverty without a school education. Without education, they often cannot find work and have to accept poorly paid jobs. Attending school is only possible with school fees, as the schools use them to finance transport to the schools and the maintenance of the buildings.

As part of the employee Christmas grant, INGEAR has been able to cover the school fees for the high school of the older orphans for several years. In 2021, the Medical Fund was expanded with a donation from the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation. This fund can be used to pay for medical necessities such as doctor's visits and medication for the residents of the home. The establishment of the fund was an important step in view of the current global situation and the fact that there is no health insurance in Kenya.

In addition, renovation work on the building could be co-financed in 2020. This includes, in particular, the renovation of the sanitary facilities. Some of the pupils, who have already been supported in this way in recent years with the help of the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation, have even made it to secondary schools, a great basis for moving forward in life.
